WIP Wednesday 08.11.17

Current WIP count: 6

I have another commission! Mum has asked me to make a captain America shield cushion for a present.

I’m having fun with it. And by fun I mean I’m now working on two versions simultaneously in the hope that one of them will work, and both of them have been frogged at least three times each. That kind of fun.

Looking like the start of a terribly American bikini

But that’s what happens when you refuse to look for a pattern because after 3-4 years of crocheting you should be able to do it yourself by now. Stubborn? Me? Yes.

I also got a big delivery of Christmas-coloured yarns so I’ve made a start on my very first santa hat.

I started at the point, so there were a few immature posts on Instagram

NOT a willy warmer

But now I’m getting underway it’s starting to look much more hat-like.

Again, no pattern for this one but so far I haven’t had to frog any of it!

If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember I started my first ever project on circular knitting needles. It was really fun, I like using the shorter needles, and it was going really well. I got this far:

before realising that nobody actually has a head that big. How big? I was supposed to cast on 50 stitches and I somehow managed to cast on 70.

So that was frogged right back (I only cried a little bit) and I started again, but somehow forgot that I had switched to a smaller needle size. I got three rounds in before noticing that it would’ve been a tight fit for a baby. More frogging.

So I’m taking a break from that right now! Maybe I’ll go back when I’ve finally sorted Captain America’s shield, but we shall see.

So that’s what I’ve been doing this week. What’s everyone else working on? Got something fun to share? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Please write up a pattern or give us some notes on your captain America pillow. I tried something similar to this last year and couldn’t figure out the space between the star. I could use your help. Love the red elf hat!

    1. Haha this would be the worst pattern ever, my increases were completely random! When I’ve finished this one for my mum I might make another one though (I did get 3 cushions), and I’ll see if I can be a bit more sensible about that one.

  2. I’ve been making lots of jewelry for some craft shows I’ve got coming up in the next couple of months. Posted some of it on Wednesday.

I love the start of your Captain America cushions! Can’t wait to see the finished project. I tried knitting once. ONCE, mind you. Never again. I’ll still with crochet and jewelry. Sometimes together. LOL

  3. You should open the window and call for Captain America to come to your rescue.

lol…. Aww, I feel your frustration QWC. Perhaps you’re tired and need a day off maybe? Give yourself a break. Go and have lunch with your mum somewhere lovely… then come home and watch TV – maybe a Christmas Movie on one of the Christmas channels … then later on … a candle lit bathroom and a bubble bath.

The day following you’ll be fit to knit a costume for Big Ben!
(at least … that’s the theory. lol)
Sending crafty vibes ~ Cobs. x

    1. Hehe well I didn’t manage to convince my parents to move countries with me so they’re still down in England, and I don’t have a TV or licence, but I’ll definitely give the rest of it a go!
I managed to finish the hat at last and I’ve started another on my circulars, and this one has turned out small as well so I think it’s just a visualisation problem. I really can’t see what size a hat will be just from the cast on row. I guess I just need to keep going until I learn the correct number of stitches for a particular size!
