We’re looking at another of my very early Tangles today, one of the first five I learned (the exact order gets a bit hazy after the first two).
You can find a step out for Cadent, using squares in the starting grid, here.
I prefer to start my Cadent with circles, but the premise is exactly the same.
With better shading than I can manage, it can look pretty trippy, like an Escher painting where you can’t tell what the top layer is or which way is up.
I’m still working on my shading. Maybe one day I’ll be good enough to bend people’s minds π
So what do you think of Cadent? Do you prefer circles or squares to start? Let me know in the comments!

I like both but there’s something a little more quirky about squares.

They’re both fun in different ways π I’m going to make cards for my shop using both of them

The first thing I saw is a nose. I’d focused in on the top left corner – but once I’d taken in the rest of the pattern the beauty exploded on the page.
What a GREAT pattern … and with the shading it does, as you say, become very Escher!
I think out of all the ones I’ve seen you do so far, this one is my favourite.
Well done you clever thing! ~ Cobs. x

Now I’m seeing rows and rows of noses :p I love the way people can see different things in the same picture! Cadent seems to be a favourite with a few people, it’s a good one π

This is very cool! It looks like it takes a lot of patience.

Maybe a little patience, but less than some Tangles. Paradox is my favourite, but it does take a loooooong time! The good thing is it’s relaxing and a kind of meditation, so taking a long time can actually be good π

Awesome! π I love the 3-D effect…at first I thought I misunderstood, and that it is the string art thatβs becoming very popular right now π

Oh I sooo want to try string art as well! There must be some Tangles you could make with string art… hmm research is needed!
