I’m very late to the Make Nine Challenge (it seems to have started in 2015), but that’s nothing new.
Unlike a lot of posts I’ve seen on Instagram, I’m not aiming for nine specific things I want to make. It’s mainly skills I want to learn, with a couple of specific items thrown in there.
- Learn brioche knitting
- Knit a pair of socks
- Make a jumper/cardigan using the super chunky yarn I bought at a craft fair last year
- Learn double knitting
- Make something using colourwork
- Knit something using this book I got for Christmas:
- Make a Belladonna dress
- Make a Strange Signs blanket
- Knit some selbu mittens
I’d say that’s enough to be getting on with for one year, especially considering what a slow knitter I am. Being realistic, let’s say I want to start these 9 things this year and any finishes will be a bonus.

I think those 9 sound doable and realistic to start them…and perhaps a project may fit 2 criteria at the same time! 😀

That is my plan, certainly with the jumper/Fair Isle makes.

Good GRIEF, Hannah ! – no way could you get stuck in to all that in a year !
But, come to think of it, it will be fund to try, eh ? – and I must say that the dress would look wonderful on you. As for the blanket ..

Oooh that is pretty! I think the hardest part with that one will be deciding what colours to use.

I think I want to learn double knitting too.

I saw one of my friends making a reversible Jack Skellington cowl, and I just HAD to know how it was done. That might be a bit adventurous for a first project, but it’s definitely the end goal.

I am also a slow knitter. I will be cheering you on from the sidelines! You got this!!

Thanks! We can’t all be knitting whizzes, and I’m happy enough to be finished when I’m finished, however long it might take.

Yay! Sounds like a party – go get ’em! If you’re tackling socks for the first time, give this pattern a try:

The heel construction got the seal of approval from my knitting students last year, and is much simpler than a lot of the common-or-garden sock patterns out there! Good luck!
