I can put it off no longer; It’s finally time for me to dip my toe into the sock knitting pool.
My tiny sock circular has gone walkabout, but I got the hang of using DPNs after making two lots of fingerless gloves so I’m just going to stick with them.
I’m using Mothy and the Squid yarn, in the Peacock Flower colourway that I bought during Local Yarn Shop Day last year. Less than a year in stash is pretty good for me!
Obviously I haven’t got very far yet (it took me at least five tries to get the stretchy cast on right), but I’m feeling surprisingly confident about it. The pattern I’m using is the basic sock with integrated heel on Ravelry, suggested by Crawcraft Beasties as being good for sock beginners.
Wish me luck!
Hannah

This is your first sock?? Congrats–it’s super addictive and fun! At least I hope you find it to be that way too.

Yep, I was too much of a wuss to try before! But now I know I can use DPNs no problem I’m going for it.

They’re top down so I’m not particularly enjoying the ribbing, but it’s still going faster than I expected.

I prefer top down myself.

I do, Hannah – I do ! I’ve never knitted a sock in my life, so I admire your determination – and also refusal to allow your knitting horizons to be limited.
Goodonyermate ! 😀

Well it’s ribbing to start so bleh :p but even that’s not taking as long as I expected so it’s pretty good.

As a fellow first time sock knitter, I wish you good luck with your sock knitting! Half way through one sock and I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of how I like to use dpns.

Good luck to you too! I’m starting to think I prefer using 4 DPNs rather than 5, but 5 works better for the pattern I’m using so I shall figure it out.

I’m the same! I find it so much easier to use 4 rather than 5 but sometimes it’s easier to divide the stitches up on 4 needles and knit with the 5th even though it slows me down with knitting.

Have fun! I definitely was surprised at how easy sock knitting was and wish I had tried it sooner:)

I wish that too. It’s silly that I was so worried about it!
