I was knitting away on the boyfriend’s socks when I realised there was a little sock circular sitting around with nothing on it. A little while later I was browsing my stash on Excel and noticed that I’d never actually used my Neon Rainbow yarn from Siobhan’s Crafts. You can guess what happened next.
This is the start of some Hermione’s Everyday Socks (Ravelry link) for myself. I must say, so far I’m not convinced with this pattern – it seems a lot of faff for just a little pretty. But maybe that’s just because I don’t like having to switch between knit and purl stitches. I’m going to carry on and just trust that in the end it will be worth it.
The boyfriend’s socks are plodding along and I’ve almost finished the first one.
With two pairs now on the go at the same time, I think I can officially call myself a sock knitter.

In my opinion the best bit of the pattern is the heel part, it’s quick and much easier to pick up heel stitches and works well with continuing striped yarns too.

I will try to reserve judgement til I’ve done the heel then.

I am so amazed by people who make socks – that truly seems like some impossible magic too me! Let me conquer the granny square and then maybe I can try to make a sock (yup, I would just me making one sock, ha!)

I thought that too, but it turns out they’re much simpler than they seem!

LOL I don’t get the obsession with that pattern either. I mean, it’s fine, but it’s not thrilling.

I totally agree.

I’m happy to be trying a new pattern, but I’m not sure I’ll use it again after this pair. At least I can say I’ve made some though.

Absolutely! I wondered if I didn’t love mine because it was variegated yarn, and it would look better in a solid? Except I just didn’t love knitting them either. Live and learn, I guess!

It’s so gorgeous, I can’t believe I haven’t used it before now. I’m glad I waited til I could use it for socks though instead of another shawl that I can’t always wear.

I love socks out of yarn I love. Each time I wear them it feels like a treat.

Thank you 🙂 I suspect Hermione’s will take me a while so I might have two pairs on the go for a bit yet.

This pattern has become my basic sock recipe without the fiddly pattern stitch. Although I’m thinking about trying a garter stitch heel.

I got so confused with the heel. Still not entirely sure I’ve got it right. That’s the problem with using four needles when the pattern is written for two – my brain can’t cope!

Yes I have learned to ignore the needle instructions as I use a long circular.

Definitely a sock addict now. What pattern are you using for your boyfriends socks? I’m on a promise to knit a pair for The Management.

It’s called ‘basic sock with integrated heel’ on Rav. I love it because there’s no picking up stitches.
