Have I mentioned that Diagon Ally is addictive? I started a pair for myself last week and so far I’ve knitted them on the sofa, in bed, in the car, on a park bench, and in a cafe! All this work means I’m already halfway through the first foot.
I’m using the Schoppel Boots yarn bought in Dunoon, just to see how the cotton content plays along. So far I can’t tell much difference from my usual wool/nylon yarn except that this feels ever so slightly rougher on my fingers as I work with it. It’ll be interesting to see what effect soaking/blocking will have when I’m done.
As for the shortie sock, that has been frogged. I hadn’t worked a stitch on it for weeks and it was on the verge of becoming a UFO so I bit the bullet and pulled it all out. Part of me is sad that my plan for the socks didn’t work out, but mainly I’m relieved that I don’t have to keep working on something that wasn’t making me happy at all.
So that’s my sock news for this week. What’s everyone else working on?

Those socks are beautiful and I totally get the addictiveness of the making process. I just recently finished a pair of Knitted Knockers on size US5 DPNs. Those take about the same amount of time as socks and are small enough to be portable, which means you’re just as likely to cart them around and work on them wherever you happen to be, too. And just like socks, each one needs a mate, so when you finish one, you always need to make it a friend.
I suppose only big things, like sweaters or afghans, are portability-challenged, but then again… they make the cutest knitting bags with all kinds of zippers and pockets and little holes for the yarn to come out of, not to mention wheels and handles and little windows so you can see what’s where. There’s no stopping those of us who feel compelled to do this sort of thing…

That’s a beautiful color! I’m glad you frogged the other ones that weren’t bringing you joy. It’s hard to do sometimes, but it’s freeing!

I’m still not entirely sold on the colours. Brights and jewels all the way!!

Oooh, that yarn is so pretty!
I had so many sock plans for this year year but my attention just keeps veering back to blankets so that’s what I’m sticking with for me. At some point I’ll make more socks though…at some point 😀

I’ve just finished a heap of sewing and card making. I am trying to use my stash of acrylic for some charity knits.

I tried Isolda Teague’s garter stitch mitts. Free pattern and great stash buster.

Ooh that rings a bell, I think they’re on my to-make list.

They can be easily memorized or modified. The first pair I made out of a natural white wool. The simplicity of the garter stitch would be fun to embroider.

Great progress on the sock(s)! Even the frogging is a different kind of progress, since the yarn can now go into a project that you’ll love. 😉

Exactly! The yarn deserves to be something I actually like.
