More free time

I’m about a hair’s breadth from changing this blog’s title to The Unemployment Diaries. I am once again without job, and believe me when I say if covid were a person I would punch them in the face while holding a kettlebell.

So now I have time once again to think about my advent yarns. A preliminary footer about with them gave me this:

The colours aren’t quite accurate to real life, but I think you can see how that one yellow skein stands out like a sore thumb:

Better. But I still don’t know what to do with them.

On the one hand it would be nice to use them all in one thing so I could go “this was my first yarn advent calendar” every time I use it, but on the other hand I don’t use scarves very often (and shawls even less) and it would be sad to make something just for it to sit on the coat rack. And it is sock yarn after all.  But that all-in-one-item idea is so appealing, so I just don’t know.

At least I’ve got some time to think about it.

  1. Very sorry about the employment woes, Hannah – truly. Yours isn’t an easy path, that’s for sure. One can only remind you that you’re far from alone in this ping-ponging jobs thing. Chin up, old dear ..

  2. Oh, no. I am so sorry that this is dragging on and I know how stressful it must be. I hate covid so much at this point, and I am pretty darn disappointed with some of my fellow citizens too. I completely agree with you about that yellow. Goodbye, yellow! Check out The Secret Life of Cats and Dogs by Casapinka to use with your yarn. I did that MKAL with four colors, but when it was done I could see how cool it would be in the advent colors that it was designed for. I’ve been collecting up an assortment of leftovers from the stash to make my own advent sent to use in another one. It can be a shawl, but there is a scarf option that I think I will use a lot more.
Hugs. I do hope that things turn around for you soon and the perfect job arrives.

  3. Yes that yellow stood out – definitely a little better without it. You sound a bit fed up – sorry to read that – maybe make a quick something with that sunny yellow only? I am not sure what but it’s a cheerful colour for January.

  4. Hi Hannah, I’m so sorry to hear about your job. It’s just grossly unfair and you have been through so much. I hope things improve for you soon.
Have you come across this pattern? Scrappy V (rav link): https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/scrappy-v
It’s a t-shirt but i knitted it as a jumper (long sleeves). It’s one of my favourites as it’s so light but also warm/cool as you need it (wool is amazing). It’s another option anyway. I think there’s also one called ‘sock arms’ which is quite cool, and a steven west jumper that uses scraps/minis, they might be worth checking out. The colours are beautiful.
    Take care Pink

  5. I made a huge wrap and have never worn it and don’t think I ever will. I enjoyed knitting it but it seemed a waste of all that expensive advent. With my 2nd advent I made a litmus cowl and I love it and wear it around the house all the time. Good luck deciding and I’m sorry about your job. This pandemic really is affecting your income but at least you get a wee bit more crafting time.
