FO Friday 02.11.18

Happy Friday everyone! Is it me or has this been a really long week?

I finished the final robin for my mum and here’s the full set. With pompoms!

The one in the blue hat has been adjusted; I just didn’t like the way the eyes looked so I moved them a bit closer together.

20181102_154511-1.jpgIt’s been a long while since I mentioned them, but I did finish the baby blanket and matching bootees for my friend having a baby.

I’m pretty proud of them. Plus I took them to choir to hand over, and got 2 crochet orders from other choir members! Total win.

That’s what I’ve done this week. Anyone else got FOs to share? Any fun plans for the weekend? Let me know in the comments!

FO Friday 27.07.18

I’ve got a bit of a different FO this week. The date is fast approaching when my friend will move to Germany, and I wanted to give her a leaving present. She loves stags so when I saw a pretty silver stag necklace I bought it without a second thought.

A couple of days ago that second thought came along; my friend doesn’t wear jewellery. Even on her wedding day she had to be talked into wearing some. What a rubbish present.

But I don’t give in that easily! I decided to take the stag off the chain and make it into something else, preferably something useful like a keyring. Just at that moment, I noticed a keyring hanging on one of my old bags, a large ring with a big star and a small star hanging on chains: perfect!

I took off the big star and used the chain to hang the stag from, kept the small star, and added a crochet heart. It’s me; there has to be crochet.

And this is the result.

Please excuse the photo quality – it took me 10 minutes to get it lying nicely in the box, there’s no way I was taking it out again!

I also finished up the ginger bootees this week and gifted them to my friend.

I made her cry, which wasn’t the reaction I expected! She said it’s the first ever present baby has received (I’m honoured!) and she loved the colours so much she could just eat them. If she’s going to keep reacting like that I’ll never stop making baby things 😉

And finally, the biggest news: my Tunisian jumper is finished, TA DA!

It’s still blocking right now so I don’t have any photos of me wearing it yet, but it fits and I’m sooooo pleased with it. I don’t want to make another one right now, but I can see it happening again at some point in the future. I just love that stitch pattern.

And that’s been my productive week. I’m off today to help out with a summer camp for a week, so there will be fewer posts from me and probably no likes or comments at all. I shall do my best to catch up with you all when I get back. Hopefully there will be at least a little bit of crochet so I don’t go completely mad, but we’ll have to see.

Has anyone else got some FOs to share? What do you think of my keyring (be honest)? Let me know in the comments!

Do you ever ignore that nagging little voice in your head, just to regret it later? That happened with my bunny lovey.

The head wasn’t quite as round and cute as I planned, but I told myself I could make it work, it would look better when it was stuffed, blah blah and so I carried on. I wanted it to be a ripple blanket, but somehow I couldn’t make the maths work and I ended up with a 5-pointed star blanket.

It wasn’t terrible, and I’m sure my friend would have loved it however it turned out, but I got more and more dissatisfied every time I worked on it. Eventually I got to this point:

And couldn’t do it any more. I frogged the whole lot and started again.

It was frustrating, and my wrist wasn’t too happy at having to do all that tiny tight amigurumi all over again, but now I’m so much happier with it and I can’t wait to hand it over to my friend.

Now the main part is finished, I’ve made the ears and the plug for the base of the head, and all that’s left to do is give it a cute face and sew everything together. I should be done this week.

Progress was much smoother with the bootees. They’re now done, aside from sewing the buttons on. I guess I’ll need a button sewing session one day this week to get these and the dragon scale pair finished.

I gave them cream soles to match the border on the lovey, and a beige trim to match the inner part of bunny’s ears. I want it to be suuuuper obvious that these are a matching set

The long weekend meant I did get to work on my wee dragon, but I hit a couple of snags. The first is that I ran out of the main colour when I was halfway through a piece. I improvised a little and switched in the yellow from the wing pieces. Now the large horns will be green and yellow, and the little horns will be all yellow.

My next problem is the wings.

Do they look like wings to you? Because they don’t look like wings to me. They’re double layered and I had to make the stupid things seven times just to get four the same shape, and they still don’t work.

Not sure what the problem is but I know I’m not using these. Maybe I’ll just admit defeat and bin the wings – make him a drake rather than a dragon and hope nobody notices.

So that’s been my somewhat frustrating week. How’s everyone else doing? Is your work going smoothly? Let me know in the comments!

One of my best friends recently told me she’s having a baby, so I’ve been on a bit of a making frenzy. They don’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl, but my friend doesn’t buy into gendered colours anyway so I’ve pretty much got carte blanche and I’ve just been using anything I fancy from my stash.

There are these ginger dragon scale bootees (my friend is ginger and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a ginger baby too. They’re the cutest), which just need buttons sewing on.

I’ve started a comfort blanket, not following a pattern this time so there’s been a bit of frogging and I’m still not 100% sure how it will turn out.

It’s definitely going to be a bunny blanket. I’m currently trying to decide what colour to use for the inner ears. I could go pink or blue or yellow to match the yarn, but I’m kind of thinking a contrast would be better, maybe cream or light brown. It might be a case of just having a play and seeing what looks best.

I love this colourful cotton so much that I’ve also started a matching pair of bootees with it. Nothing photo-worthy yet though.

This is the friend for whom I made a rainbow octopom at Christmas so I’m also planning to make a mini one using the same yarn for baby.

I’d really love to make some proper baby clothes too, but it might not happen. This is my friend’s first baby so I imagine they’re going to be quite spoilt for choice, and she might not want any more clothes lying around!

The poor dragon is still in bits although I have made a start on the final wing piece.

So, even though baby isn’t due until November/December, that’s pretty much all I’ve been thinking about this week. How’s your week going? What are you working on right now? Let me know in the comments!

I’m still working on these dratted bootees. I keep thinking I’m done with one, but then I look at it the next day and it’s just not right.

20180321_140816-1.jpg

Right now I’m not 100% happy with the shaping at the front, but I might just let it go.

The baby isn’t due until June so I’ve also spent a bit of time on my Tunisian jumper and the chevron blanket. This is where my sleeve is up to.

I’m on the last section, just a few more rows and I start all over again with the next sleeve!

20180321_090406.jpg

And I’m on to the final white section of the blanket. I’ll save photos for Friday because it will be finished.

That’s what I’m working on this week, how about you? Got any thoughts on the bootees shape? Let me know in the comments!

Fail Friday

Oh these bootees!!

I was supposed to have an FO to show you today, but guess which muppet picked up her crochet without the hook this morning.

I’m disappointed, but on the plus side I spent my lunch break joining in with #sharethelove on Instagram. I’ve found so many new beautiful accounts to follow and it’s really interesting to see which of my posts different people like.

If you’re on Instagram you can still play – messgage me a heart (@quietwater_craft) and I’ll share my favourite post from your feed in my stories. Or set up your own and get sharing other people 🙂

Hopefully I can get these flipping baby shoes finished at the weekend. Who knew something so small could cause so much trouble?

How’s your Friday going? Got any FOs to share? Let me know in the comments!

I need to stop saying that things will be simple or won’t take me long.

Here are just a few of my attempts at the soles for these baby bootees

I tried to just follow this pattern from Bonita Patterns, my usual, and the soles turned out absolutely perfect! But it turns out the lilac ‘dk’ yarn is about half the thickness of the grey ‘dk’. No idea which is correct, I just know that the two of them weren’t working together that way.

Then I tried some darker purple yarn with a different pattern. I like the sole, but the yarn didn’t feel that nice and it just didn’t go as well with the grey.

Then I tried doubling up the lilac with that rounded sole. Gorgeous, but preemie size.

So I tweaked the pattern a little to make it bigger, and I finally have a workable sole that looks okay with a grey upper.

Phew!

I’ve also worked a few more rows on my rainbow Tunisian jumper, I’m now up to the red and orange colour combo. Just red and burgundy to go and that’ll be my first ever sleeve finished.

So that’s my week so far. Anyone else having yarn trouble? Got some WIPs to share? Let me know in the comments!

Since realising how quickly the chevron blanket moves along, I’ve been working on it more often. I even sewed in some ends on the train back to Glasgow!

I reckon I could finish the crochet part this weekend, but I make no promises about the remaining ends.

I’ve also started a commission for some baby dragon boots. I was given this skein

And I had some lilac in my stash that just begged to be paired with it.

They’ll be newborn size so shouldn’t take me too long. As long as I can stop squeeing over how cute they are and just get on with it 😉

So that’s what I’m working on this week. Has everyone got rid of the snow now? Did you have chance to wear some of your yarny makes this week? Let me know in the comments!
