WIP clear out

Starting WIP count: 7

Having decided it would be good to go into 2019 with as clear a WIP list as possible, I had a good hard look at the list and made some decisions.

WIP 1: lacy scarf

IMG_20170309_173723_579

This has been sitting in my WIP drawer for several months. And by several months I mean over a year. I’m clearly not feeling it, so I frogged the whole thing and caked the yarn so it’s ready for a more enthusing project.

WIP 2: Knitted blanket

This has also been lying around for months (although not as long as the scarf) waiting for me to add a third colour. But, being realistic, it’s a charity blanket for cats; they don’t care how many colours it has. So I cast off and packaged it up ready to go to the cat shelter this weekend.

WIP 3: Roses for Grandma.

This one stays. I’ve collected everything into one project bag so I have a better idea of my progress and I don’t have to hunt around for the right yarn every time I come back to it.

WIP 4: Furls crochet-along skirt

I’m still dithering over this one, it may yet be frogged and abandoned. It just takes so many tiny stitches to get around my hips!

WIP 5: Mittens

These should be finished by tomorrow so I can cross them off too.

WIP 6: Sunrise Scarf

This one’s a Christmas present so will be finished before 2019 rolls around.

WIP 7: dragon

My dragon is now a drake. I gave up on the wings and stuffed the parts so now it just needs sewing together.

Final WIP count by new year: 2 (possibly 1 if I bin the skirt).

That’s a clean enough slate for me! Of course I’m making a few Christmas presents this year so the count will go up again before it comes down, but I’m confident that I can slide into 2019 with only a couple of projects on the go.

Which will leave me with tons of space on the WIP list to start exciting new projects! Hooray!

WIP Wednesday 21.11.18

Current WIP count: 5

I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself this week, because I managed to make some forget-me-nots that will fit in my roses for Grandma blanket.

This is the same size as the rose squares were at this point so it should all work out perfectly!

There’s also been a bit of progress on my slightly neglected skirt, but not much. It’s going to take a while.

That’s what I’ve been doing this week, what’s everyone else working on? Let me know in the comments!

I’m such a slow knitter. This is where I was up to last time with my Hitchhiker.

And this is what it looks like now, two weeks later.

That’s after spending about 95% of my crafting time on it, just to give you an idea of how very slow I am. It’s definitely time for some crochet, maybe a wee easy amigurumi, so I can feel like a speedy crafter again.

My skirt is now about as long as my palm so it’s really more of a belt at the moment. I’ll get there. Eventually.

What’s everyone else working on this week? Let me know in the comments!

It’s all Emily at FogKnits‘ fault. She’s knit so many beautiful Hithchikers and shared them so often that I just had to give it a go.

I bought my first ever 100% cotton cake and I knew straight away that I wanted to make a Hitchhiker with it.

There were a few false starts with the wrong size needles and losing track of which row I was on, so it’s been cast on and frogged a few times, but then everything settled into place and it started chugging along quite nicely.

This is the result of a couple of hours so it’s going to take me a while.

But I’ve got the pattern memorised, and a handy dandy row counter, so it can be a semi-mindless knit while I ‘watch’ Agents of SHIELD.

I’ve had a couple of train journeys with nothing to do, so there’s been some progress on my skirt.

I might have to start measuring it, just to prove to myself that I am actually getting somewhere. At the moment one row takes around 30 minutes so it needs a good long session to make a visible difference. There are some simpler rows coming up, and the lower part of the pattern is more meshy, so I’m hoping it won’t take the 50+ hours I just calculated…

The allure of new yarn means that Roses for Grandma has only had a couple of leaf rounds added this week.

But there’s no rush.

And that’s all I’ve done this week. I think it might be time to start something smaller as well, just to get a quick FO under my belt. What’s everyone else working on? Got any news to share? Let me know in the comments!

Yes, I started another WIP. No shame. It’s a skirt for myself, which I mentioned in my Griddle Stitch post. That was only yesterday so there’s not a great deal of progress to show since then (#fatgirlproblems!)

20180829_143334.jpg

So far I’m a little worried that the fabric is not quite…solid enough, if you know what I mean. I may yet end up lining it when the crochet part is done.

I’ve also been working on that amigurumi I mentioned a while ago. I left all the fiddly little bits til the end so of course it’s going much slower than I thought it would when making the easy peasy body, but this Friday is the deadline so I’m going as fast as I can.

It’s a copepod, in case you’re wondering. (I had to google it too).

Roses for Grandma is also bobbing along nicely, although I’m a wee bit worried the cream yarn is going to run out before I’m finished. This might call for a trip to Hobbycraft with one of the squares on hand so I can get an exact match if I buy some more.

Not that a trip to Hobbycraft is ever a bad thing!

So how’s everyone’s week going so far? What you working on? Let me know in the comments!
