Happy Halloween month

I love October, if only for the multiple excuses to paint my face!

It feels like September was less busy than August, what with me having a virus for the last few weeks and spending a lot of it resting, but it seems I still managed to get quite a lot done.

3 Christmas presents are now complete, I made some Daisies for Vicky, got a commission for a birthday card, finished off 2 Seafoam Scarves and 2 cosies, and made some good progress on my scoodie.

I finally managed a mass listing session for my Etsy shop so now my items are into double figures. And I also had a very successful giveaway on Instagram, and reached 1,000 followers on there.

Ooft I’m tired just typing all that!

So now we’re into October, I’m going to try setting some goals and see if I can achieve even more.

  1. Make at least one Christmas decoration per week. They’re small, it should be easy enough.
  2. List the rest of my cards in the shop.
  3. Make 12 new blog posts (3 per week).
  4. Write up a proper pattern for my waffle hat. Which will probably involve making it up again because it’s been so long.
  5. Finish this doily that’s been hanging around for months It’s long past time!

I’m away to a festival in Budapest at the end of the month, which will give me a bit of crochet time while I’m travelling there and back, but not much at all while I’m there. It should be really fun though so I don’t mind too much.

How did your September go? Got any goals for this month? Let me know in the comments!

FO Friday 25.08.17

I did it! One finished star blanket:

Now comes the real task; finding some lighting decent enough to get a good photo, so I can list it in the shop. Curse this Scottish weather.

Sadly I haven’t had enough sleep this week and my brain can’t manage the celtic knot coaster, so that’ll have to wait for next week.

Of course I crossed all the fun and/or easy things off the WIP list first, so now I’m left with the little faffy bits and projects that I’m not too bothered about. Silly me. I think I’ll tackle the kindle cosies first of all, as they’re closest to being finished and I am so enjoying crossing tasks off the list.

That’s been my somewhat productive week, how is everyone else doing? Got any FOs to share? Let me know in the comments!

FO Friday 21.07.17

I have managed to shrink my WIP list, hooray! Although only a little

Here is my super cute finished cactus pin cushion.

Thank goodness I never have to use that yarn ever again.

My third finished octopom.

wp-image--1168296702

I used a bigger hook for this guy so he’s turned out with a bigger head, but somehow I managed to stitch his face the same size as the smaller poms so he’s ended up looking quite smug. Oh well, I’m sure somebody will love him.

And that’s all I’ve managed to finish. Curse those camper van wheels, that’s all I’m gonna say.

In other terribly exciting news, I made my first Etsy sale!! *happy dance*

As an added bonus, it wasn’t a member of my family or a friend. A complete stranger on the internet found my card and decided it was worth spending money on. I’m so happy ūüėÄ

This is just the boost I needed to get my backside into gear and list all my stock. Now I know for defnite that people are willing to pay for my items, but they won’t be able to if they’re just sitting in my FO drawer never to be seen!

So that’s my Friday. 2 WIPs down, 10 to go!

Who else is having a good Friday? Got a FO to share? Let me know in the comments!

Out of stock

I remember now why it took me so long to open up my shop in the first place.

Yesterday I decided to add my zentangle cards to stock, as I’ve got a few made up ready to go, so I opened etsy and signed in.

Wait, I need photos of the cards first.

I set them up and took a few photos – rubbish photos because it was starting to get dark, but I figured they would do as placeholders until I could take better ones.

But wait, if somebody actually buys one it might get damaged in the post.

Over to Amazon, where I lost half an hour comparing various plastic wallets and board-backed envelopes, and trying to decide which size(s) would be best to get. That’s another ¬£20 closer to just not tracking how much I’ve spent on this shop with no return because it’s becoming too much to think about.

Right. Those should arrive tomorrow so let’s get the cards listed at last.

Oh wait, I wanted to take proper photos of them so I can get a run printed instead of them just being one-offs. But now it’s dark and there’s no hope of getting quality pictures.

You know what, never mind. I’ll just go to bed.

So my little shop is still sitting there with only 4 items in stock and not a thing sold.¬† But at least I thought about the board-backed envelopes now, and I’ll have some ready when I finally sell my first card. That’s quite organised for me!

April review

Monthly reviews are a really good idea. I didn’t think I’d achieved much in April, what with moving house, having my birthday, and being quite ill for a few days, but looking back at it there’s actually quite a list of makes!

This weekend I started a chevron blanket that will be a surprise flat-warming gift for a friend. I’ve seen the flat (it’s fabulous!) and the colours I’ve chosen will fit right in.

I created a phone cosy with the kit I got for my birthday, which also got me a commission from my cousin to make her a kindle cosy…

Which I have almost finished

This isn’t technically a made thing, but I’m including it because it took me nearly 10 days: turning a lovely skein into a massive bundle of knots and untangling it into a not-very-ball-shaped ball.

I discovered that my muscle memory is pretty darn good and I can still remember how to knit, about 20 years after my Nan taught me

I learned the beautiful Love Knot stitch and made most of a lacy scarf using it

I made my first C2C piece; this loooovely scarf

I finished my first ever star blanket with my first ever Caron Cake

I made this blue flower when I should have been unpacking. Procrastination for the win!

I made up the pic-not stitch on my second ever star blanket.

I started Mr Fox; another kit I got for my birthday

Crochet fox kit

I made a few Sand Swirl cards

I also made a birthday card for my cousin, but didn’t get a photo of it. I was really quite proud of it as well. Sigh.

So that was my April!

I’ve decided to set some goals for May, instead of just meandering from one half-finished project to the next as the fancy takes me:

  1. Finish pic-notting the baby blanket and get it sent to my sister
  2. Finish the kindle cosy and get it sent to my cousin
  3. Finish the lacy scarf and list it in the shop
  4. Finish the chevron blanket and gift it to my friend
  5. Get all my zentangle cards listed in the shop
  6. Make at least one knitted item
  7. Have at least 10 items listed in the shop

I’m determined that this will be the month of finishing things instead of getting distracted by the latest shiny new project. Wish me luck!

Birthday goodies

It was my birthday last week so I have *lots* of new presents to enjoy (I am ridiculously easy to buy for), and I thought I’d share some that will more than likely end up in my shop.

First up, I got this wee phone cosy kit from Hobbycraft

20170418_173848[1]

The yarn that came in the kit was a bit ‘sticky’, but in total it still only took me a few hours to make this up. With some other yarn these will definitely be shop stock soon.

Of course, I couldn’t just leave it simple like that and I’m already planning a dragon scale version!

I also got a copy of Simply Crochet magazine, because it came with a free Tunisian hook

20170418_171744

The jumper pattern using the hook looks really good, and I’m looking forward to trying out some of the other patterns in there as well.

This is my first experience with a crochet magazine since I really know what I’m doing, and it is¬†vastly¬†different to¬†picking up that first magazine on a whim and wondering why it was all written in code. Ah the memories. ¬†This time I’m just excited to try all these new things, because I know just fine that I can make them.

And finally, the enormous gold-plated cherry on top:

That is 35 skeins of yarn. There’s cotton, DK, chunky, noodles, acrylic, alpaca…it would take ages to list it all. So instead I just keep taking it out and staring lovingly at it.

Isn’t it beautiful

Do you like the phone cosy? Any ideas what to make with my bumper stash? Let me know in the comments!

A first!

**ANNOUNCEMENT**

I’ve received my first ever commission (from my sister, for a friend of the family, but shush – it still counts!) for a crocheted baby blanket.

After wanting to make a star blanket for months, now I get to make two at once as I’m still finishing off my Caron Cake star blanket and my sister liked it so much she asked me to use that pattern for the baby blanket.

Almost finished my first star blanket

I’m not sure whether we don’t know yet if it will be a boy or a girl, or my sister knows that I hate the whole ‘pink for girls, blue for boys’ thing, but the end result is that I’m using green and pale yellow baby merino DK.  The green is a wee bit brighter than it looked online, but the yellow is nice and subtle so I don’t think it’s too garish a combination. I do love working with Spring colours as Glasgow is dragged kicking and screaming into warmer weather.

Look at the lovely colours

So far I’m only on round 7 because it’s been such a busy week I’ve had to squeeze in a few stitches whenever I got a minute to myself.  It keeps peeking out of my bag and giving me the eye, so this weekend I’ll make sure to spend a good chunk of time working on it.

Stop looking at me in that tone of voice

I’m so excited to make something I know will definitely be wanted and go to a good home!

Opening day

I have been faffing about and making excuses for a couple of months, and now I’ve decided to just get on with it.

So, my etsy shop is now officially…

OPEN!

I only have four items listed so far and I need some serious work on my photos, but I have more items to load, and done is far better than perfect!

Let me know what you think!

Poll results

A wee while ago I asked for help deciding how to make up these two hats

I  posted on Facebook, instagram, my etsy group, and here on the blog to get as many responses as possible. I got 43 votes overall, which is actually more than I expected!

And the results are:

Opposite colours won 28 votes to 15!

I’m really happy with the result because the more responses came in, the more I realised I actually prefer them with contrasting bows. I still would have made them the same colour if the voting had gone that way, of course, but this way just pleases me more.

So there we have two more items ready to go into my shop! What do you think of the hats? Did you vote for the winning side? Let me know in the comments!
