FO Friday 20.10.17

First of all, apologies for the quality of these photos. I have been doing battle with this thing so long that it’s now completely dark outside.

It’s all because of buttons.

I have a lot of buttons. A lot. I spent a couple of evenings sifting through them trying to find a style that 1. I liked 2. went with the cowl colours and 3. I had enough of. You wouldn’t believe the number of buttons I have in sets of four, and of course this needs five.

I finally managed to narrow it down to two options; lovely brass and shiny purple.

But I just could not decide between the two, so off I went to instagram and facebook and had a poll. It was close for a bit, but then purple took off and became the clear winner.

But (of course there’s a but) while attaching said buttons, there was a casualty

I haven’t got any more of these.

So the choice wa made for me; this baby got brass buttons.

But nobody told me how different attaching buttons is when it’s knitting rather than crochet.

And why is weaving in the ends so difficult?

What am I doing wrong??

Anyway it’s finished at last, and ready to go into the shop when I can get some proper photos. Phew.

Who’s ready for the weekend (me me me!)? Got any FOs this week? Let me know in the comments!

Poll results

A wee while ago I asked for help deciding how to make up these two hats

I  posted on Facebook, instagram, my etsy group, and here on the blog to get as many responses as possible. I got 43 votes overall, which is actually more than I expected!

And the results are:

Opposite colours won 28 votes to 15!

I’m really happy with the result because the more responses came in, the more I realised I actually prefer them with contrasting bows. I still would have made them the same colour if the voting had gone that way, of course, but this way just pleases me more.

So there we have two more items ready to go into my shop! What do you think of the hats? Did you vote for the winning side? Let me know in the comments!

Technological advances

I’m really, really not big on technology. Like, only-got-a-smartphone-at-the-end-of-last-year type not big on technology. But I’m starting to realise that Quiet Water Craft needs some technology if it’s going to work really well.

For example, you’ll have noticed that some of my photos are truly terrible

Exhibit A

That’s because the smarphone I got was an old one that my friend gave me because she hadn’t used it for ages. In limited light, that’s the best the wee camera can do.

It’s so old that at least 10 of my apps keep shouting at me to update them, but I can’t because the updates are bigger than the memory of the phone. This includes Facebook and Instagram, both of which I’m hoping to use to promote QWC.

So you see, I absolutely had to get a new phone! It’s arriving on Sunday and, considering I don’t really care about technology, I’m quite excited about it. It’s not an all-singing all-dancing latest model of course; just new enough to let me do everything I want to do.

This is also my first contract that includes data (Confession: I had to look up what that even meant) so when I spy some inspiration out and about I can share it there and then, instead of trying to remember when I get home three hours later.

So, get ready for some new and improved photos and possibly some links to my social media accounts coming up. Or just some confusion as I’m dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. We’ll find out.
