Happy Mothers Day

My Mum doesn’t like receiving big, fancy, or expensive presents, for any occasion. We’re actually not allowed to give her anything but a card for her birthdays. But I very much enjoy giving presents to people, especially when I just know they’re going to love it. So I have to get creative (literally) when it comes to Mum.

I always make her card myself so even without a gift, I’ve spent time and effort on something special. This year I went for a super cute catty card designed by Eleonora of Coastal Crochet.

I don’t know why my camera picked up those glue lines, they weren’t visible in real life…

The original design is in very bright hot colours, but blue is Mum’s favourite colour and forget-me-nots are a reminder of Grandma (her mum) so I went with that instead. I also had a much smaller card base, or maybe much thicker yarn, so I had to turn the card landscape and just use a few flowers.

I still like it though.

I hope all the mums out there had a happy Mothers Day!

WIP Wednesday 30.01.19

Current WIP count: 2

Look at that short little WIP list still going. I’m half pleased with myself and half getting itchy fingers for something new! Which is why I started an amigurumi yesterday.

I’m actually surprised how far I got in one day. Eventually it should (hopefully) look like this:

Isn’t it cute!

Despite the new start, I have made some progress with Roses for Grandma this week. You may remember that I finished up the forget-me-not motif a while ago, and now I’ve finally started squaring it off.

This is a pattern that looks a millionty times better when blocked so it’s a bit of a mess now, but it will get better!

That’s what I’ve been doing this week. What’s everyone else up to? Let me know in the comments!

I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself this week, because I managed to make some forget-me-nots that will fit in my roses for Grandma blanket.

This is the same size as the rose squares were at this point so it should all work out perfectly!

There’s also been a bit of progress on my slightly neglected skirt, but not much. It’s going to take a while.

That’s what I’ve been doing this week, what’s everyone else working on? Let me know in the comments!

Forget-me-nots

As soon as I said forget-me-nots couldn’t work in the roses for Grandma blanket, my brain started whirring. There might be a way to fit them in, but first I had to work out how they could be made.

A reference photo, as I realise they might not be called forget-me-nots everywhere

I had an idea

That in reality turned out to be pants

So then I started experimenting, and these are the results

One
Two
Three

My question for everyone is which do you think looks best? I am slightly leaning towards one of them, but my mind could yet be changed!

So one, two or three? Or do you know of a better way to make them? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve already mentioned the broomstick lace cowl I started at the weekend, but here’s a slightly better photo of it.

Wow my camera is struggling to focus on this thing!

There’s been a wee bit of progress with Roses for Grandma, the most of exciting of which (to me) was the discovery of a more suitable yellow in the depths of my stash.

Mum told me that Grandma loved yellow roses so I had to include at least one. Mum also sent me this photo of the last china set Grandma bought.

Using that as inspiration I’m going to add in a few roses using this colour:

And possibly a pale blue one. Forget-me-nots are mine and Grandma’s favourite wild flowers, I love that we had that in common, but I’m not sure it’s possible to work those into the blanket so I might just go for a forget-me-not-coloured rose.

The only other progress I’ve made this week is caking yarn to better fit into the new storage I got. It’s so much handier than the six different cardboard boxes I had before.

So that’s what I’m working on. What WIPs has everyone else got going at the moment? Let me know in the comments!
