Sock it to me Monday 25

Oh this heel is going to finish me off, I swear.

It’s hardly changed since last week, thanks to the saga.

First, while trying to admire my handiwork with the heel flap I noticed that a few rows back there were some purl stitches right in the middle. Apparently counting to two was just too much for me and I’d turned the work after only finishing one needle.

Second, in the process of tinking back to fix that problem I realised there was one needle of 18 stitches and one of only 17. I went back a few more rows and the count wasn’t fixing itself, so I stuck in a lifeline and frogged the whole heel flap.

Yes, there were only 17 stitches all the way down. No, I don’t know how it happened or how I didn’t notice for an entire heel flap.

Thankfully it then went smooth as silk.

But third, the heel turn. I’m now on my fourth attempt. I can’t even remember all the ways I’ve messed it up, but believe me when I say I am never ever EVER using this heel pattern again.

Please keep your fingers crossed/send prayers/good vibes/whatever you do my way that this time I can get the stupid thing right!

Oh look, another WIP crept on there. It looks a bit creepy at the moment, but this is going to be a frog bookmark for the boyfriend.

It’s probably darker than it should be, but it was the closest yarn to me and he’s happy with it so on we go.

I’m still on the bottom ribbing of his Flax. Not too much left to go though, and then it’ll be sleeve island for me.

I now have a heel on my sock again, and I’m away down the foot.

It was soooo much easier the second time round – I’m almost looking forward to the next one. It is quite addictive, isn’t it?

I frogged the sock back and took about 3cm off the leg length, then started knitting on it again straight away.

I got to the end of the gusset (lookit me, knowing the lingo) and realised that I’d made another mistake: The pattern is written using 2 needles in magic loop method, but I’m using 4 DPNs, so when it says ‘knit to end of needle 1 and place marker’ I actually should have knit to the end of my needle 2.

Sigh.

So I’ve frogged it back AGAIN and this is what I have now.

Third time’s the charm, right?

So the heel worked, yaaay!

But.

I tried it on and it fits, but the leg is just too long for me, and I’m seriously considering frogging back to shorten it.

Is that a bad choice? I think I might do it anyway.

Flax was my procrastination project while I was avoiding the heel so I’m almost at the bottom ribbing.

I was put on furlough from work today so it shouldn’t be too long til this is finished. Silver lining!

It’s definitely time to get some of these WIPs finished off so that will be my focus for a while.

Sock it to me Monday 4

Turns out I’m still a bit scared of socks.

I was powering down the leg faster than I thought possible with such fiddly little needles, and then for the last few days it’s just been sitting in my WIP bag looking forlorn.

Why? Because I’m half a centimetre from starting the heel part and NEW THINGS ARE SCARY!

But I’ve had a word with myself and my task for tonight is to do that last little bit of the leg and get on to the heel. I can do this!
