Sock it to me Monday 30

I finished my happy neon socks at last and wore them at the weekend.

These are Hermione’s Every Day Socks (Rav link) using Neon Rainbow sock yarn from Siobhan’s Crafts (I cannot recommend enough).

The first Diagon Ally sock is done and I’m whizzing through the leg of the second one.

And my shortie sock currently looks like this.

But there’s a wee niggle at the back of my mind telling me to frog it all. I’m not sure why, but I’m just not that happy with it. I’ll give it a few days in the naughty corner and see how I feel after that.

What do you guys think, Blogville?

September review 2020

Yesss Halloween month is here! Time to dig out my face paints and costumes!

But before all that, let’s have a look at my yarnery in September.

Stash used this month: 1

Total stash used this year: 42.5

Stash remaining: 325.75

Makes for myself

Just a crochet rainbow and most of a pair of Hermione’s every day socks for myself this month. I’m happy with that, as I’ve wanted to make a rainbow like this for MONTHS and I just love the neon rainbow yarn from Siobhan’s Crafts.

Makes for others

I finished off a green pair of socks for the boyfriend and made a start on a purple pair. Cuz he’s amazing and bought me flowers as soon as I found out I was losing my job.

He is good to me.

I am most definitely still in the middle of a sock phase. But I also feel the urge to make another blanket getting stronger and stronger, so that’s probably going to happen imminently.

It just popped into my head that I did a “make 9” post away back when things were normal, which I haven’t even looked at for months. It’s probably a bit late to get them all done before the end of the year, but I think I’ll have a look at it again and at least try something from the list.

But then I will also be spending a lot of time looking for a job and then hopefully working at said job. We’ll see.

How was your September?

Sock it to me Monday – whatever number we’re up to

Well today is already A Day. I just found out I’m going to be made redundant for the second time in as many years. It’s enough to give a girl a complex.

The good news is I finished my million step challenge on Saturday, four days earlier than scheduled, because I wanted to finish in one of my favourite places and with the boyfriend (he works weekdays now).

That’s my victory pose when I realised I’d made it. Which I have to tell you here because apparently photo captions aren’t a thing any more -_-

My feet and legs are still a bit sore today, but I know it was worth it to raise some money for Diabetes UK .

If anyone is feeling particularly generous and wants to sponsor someone they’ve never met in real life (and cheer me up a bit), you can find my page here.

Thanks to the 20,000+ steps each day last week, there’s not a great deal of sock progress to show. I’m just beginning the toe on my second Hermione sock, and have only done a few rows on the Diagon Ally pair. Cue I-just-found-out-I’m-losing-my-job-quality photos:

So that’s me.

Sock it to me Monday 26

I’m tired of taking photos of the Hermione socks so I’m not showing them again until they’re finished. Hopefully that will just be next week, but we’ll see.

In the meantime, have a photo of my newest WIP!

These are hopefully going to be some Diagon Ally (rav link) socks for the boyfriend, this being the second skein of yarn he bought in Dunoon specifically for socks.

The twisted ribbing is new to me so that was exciting, and I might possibly maybe have a go at using the chart when it comes to the actual diagonal part. It would be good for my brain, I’m sure.

Now I’m off for a walk because there are only 10 days left of my 1 million step challenge!

A colourful quiz

Karen does the best quizzes, and this time it’s all about colour

What is your favorite colour? How is this colour reflected in your crafting?

My favourite colour is green, specifically Kelly green, which is hardly reflected in my crafting at all because green yarn usually isn’t even an option. The exception being Bonny Lass by Kitty Pride Fibres – the most beautiful yarn I have ever seen ever.

Do you prefer bright colours or more subdued shades?

Brights and jewel-tones all the way, I love colours that pop. E.g. my happy neon Hermione socks:

Does your colour mood shift with the seasons? Do you carry one colour all year and just change the accent colour?

Neither? I love the colours I love and I work with them, it doesn’t really change no matter the time of year. Although while I’m stash-busting, colour has to take a bit of a back seat as I try to just use up what I’ve got.

Is there a colour you avoid? Or maybe it’s underrepresented in your crafting?

Orange. If someone asked me to make something using orange then I could, but I would never choose it for myself.

When you pick out your crafting supplies how important is colour to you? Is it the first thing you consider or is it a bit further down the list?

It’s usually the first thing I notice, especially when it comes to yarn. That’s why my stash is so very colourful.

Do you ever consciously choose a different colour palette just for the change?

I have done in the past, but I always end up coming back to what I know and love. Lots of vivid, happy colour makes me happy so why wouldn’t I stick with that!

Sock it to me Monday 25

Oh this heel is going to finish me off, I swear.

20200914_131342.jpg

It’s hardly changed since last week, thanks to the saga.

First, while trying to admire my handiwork with the heel flap I noticed that a few rows back there were some purl stitches right in the middle. Apparently counting to two was just too much for me and I’d turned the work after only finishing one needle.

Second, in the process of tinking back to fix that problem I realised there was one needle of 18 stitches and one of only 17. I went back a few more rows and the count wasn’t fixing itself, so I stuck in a lifeline and frogged the whole heel flap.

Yes, there were only 17 stitches all the way down. No, I don’t know how it happened or how I didn’t notice for an entire heel flap.

Thankfully it then went smooth as silk.

But third, the heel turn. I’m now on my fourth attempt. I can’t even remember all the ways I’ve messed it up, but believe me when I say I am never ever EVER using this heel pattern again.

Please keep your fingers crossed/send prayers/good vibes/whatever you do my way that this time I can get the stupid thing right!

Sock it to me Monday 24

Just a quick post today, as it’s the boyfriend’s birthday and I’ve got decorating and baking to do!
His socks are finished aside from sewing the ends in:

I finished my first Hermione’s every day sock and the second one seems to be going a bit quicker so that’s good. I can’t wait to get them done.

Now, excuse me while I try to find the blu tack.

Sock it to me Monday 23

Please excuse the hasty photos – I completely forgot today is Monday!

The boyfriend’s socks only need a toe and the ends sewing in to be finished.

Hermione’s every day socks are bimbling along down the first foot.

20200831_185904.jpg

How I wish I had gone for a plain foot instead of carrying on the fiddly pattern all the way down, so I could have been done and onto the second sock by now. Oh well, you live and learn!

I’m pretty excited to get my socks finished because I have PLANS for the leftovers. I already think I’m going to love them, but we’ll see. Now, on with the current socks.

Sock it to me Monday 22

I’m kind of liking having two pairs of socks to work on at the same time, especially as one is simpler than the other. If I want a little bit of brain work, I knit my neon rainbow socks.

And if I want to just zone out while watching the new episodes of Lucifer (eeeeeh!!) then I can work on the boyfriend’s socks.

20200824_122723.jpg

It’s perfect! Y’know aside from the ridiculously long DPNs I’m having to use for the rainbow socks, but you can’t have everything.

Oh, snap.

Last post I showed you my sock progress. Two or three rows later, this happened.

A snapped circular sock needle

Disaster!

Luckily, I got it down onto the table without dropping any stitches so there was no frogging or fixing required. Unluckily, I don’t have any other empty sock needles in my collection so now I’m having to use these ridiculous things:

20200823_174904.jpg

You wouldn’t believe the number of times I’ve stabbed myself or the boyfriend or cushions that are anywhere near me when I’m knitting. But I didn’t have to undo all that fiddly work and the sock is progressing so overall I’m calling it a win.

I don’t think I’ll bother with circular sock needles again.

Sock it to me Monday 21

I was knitting away on the boyfriend’s socks when I realised there was a little sock circular sitting around with nothing on it.  A little while later I was browsing my stash on Excel and noticed that I’d never actually used my Neon Rainbow yarn from Siobhan’s Crafts. You can guess what happened next.

20200817_124741.jpg

This is the start of some Hermione’s Everyday Socks (Ravelry link) for myself.  I must say, so far I’m not convinced with this pattern – it seems a lot of faff for just a little pretty. But maybe that’s just because I don’t like having to switch between knit and purl stitches. I’m going to carry on and just trust that in the end it will be worth it.

The boyfriend’s socks are plodding along and I’ve almost finished the first one.

20200817_150440.jpg

With two pairs now on the go at the same time, I think I can officially call myself a sock knitter.
