Camp was not the ideal place to start working on my Roses for Grandma blanket. My brain is not at its best when running on six hours of sleep per night, with 16 girls clamouring around me. I made the first rose six times before I finally figured out what the pattern was telling me.
I have a progress photo
But also a regress photo
I love the vintage look of the dusty pink and purple roses, and I decided I’d like to run with that aesthetic, which means the bright pink and yellow roses no longer work. So they have been put to one side for use in some other project at some point.
I also got on with the mini octopom for my friend’s baby
It just needs eyes and some stuffing and it’s done.
Not too bad for a busy week. Is everyone else having a good week? What are you working on? Let me know in the comments!
One of my best friends recently told me she’s having a baby, so I’ve been on a bit of a making frenzy. They don’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl, but my friend doesn’t buy into gendered colours anyway so I’ve pretty much got carte blanche and I’ve just been using anything I fancy from my stash.
There are these ginger dragon scale bootees (my friend is ginger and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a ginger baby too. They’re the cutest), which just need buttons sewing on.
I’ve started a comfort blanket, not following a pattern this time so there’s been a bit of frogging and I’m still not 100% sure how it will turn out.
It’s definitely going to be a bunny blanket. I’m currently trying to decide what colour to use for the inner ears. I could go pink or blue or yellow to match the yarn, but I’m kind of thinking a contrast would be better, maybe cream or light brown. It might be a case of just having a play and seeing what looks best.
I love this colourful cotton so much that I’ve also started a matching pair of bootees with it. Nothing photo-worthy yet though.
This is the friend for whom I made a rainbow octopom at Christmas so I’m also planning to make a mini one using the same yarn for baby.
I’d really love to make some proper baby clothes too, but it might not happen. This is my friend’s first baby so I imagine they’re going to be quite spoilt for choice, and she might not want any more clothes lying around!
The poor dragon is still in bits although I have made a start on the final wing piece.
So, even though baby isn’t due until November/December, that’s pretty much all I’ve been thinking about this week. How’s your week going? What are you working on right now? Let me know in the comments!
I’ve received my first ever commission (from my sister, for a friend of the family, but shush – it still counts!) for a crocheted baby blanket.
After wanting to make a star blanket for months, now I get to make two at once as I’m still finishing off my Caron Cake star blanket and my sister liked it so much she asked me to use that pattern for the baby blanket.
I’m not sure whether we don’t know yet if it will be a boy or a girl, or my sister knows that I hate the whole ‘pink for girls, blue for boys’ thing, but the end result is that I’m using green and pale yellow baby merino DK. The green is a wee bit brighter than it looked online, but the yellow is nice and subtle so I don’t think it’s too garish a combination. I do love working with Spring colours as Glasgow is dragged kicking and screaming into warmer weather.
So far I’m only on round 7 because it’s been such a busy week I’ve had to squeeze in a few stitches whenever I got a minute to myself. It keeps peeking out of my bag and giving me the eye, so this weekend I’ll make sure to spend a good chunk of time working on it.
I’m so excited to make something I know will definitely be wanted and go to a good home!
