Only one wee finish today; the mini octopom for my friend’s baby.
Pretty darn cute if I do say so myself!
I’m pattern testing an amigurumi at the moment and I thought I’d have that finished to show you today, but I ran into a bit of trouble with the tail so that’ll have to wait til next week. It’s also cute, in a slightly weird way. You’ll see.
So what’s everyone else up to? Got some FOs this week? Let me know in the comments!
Camp was not the ideal place to start working on my Roses for Grandma blanket. My brain is not at its best when running on six hours of sleep per night, with 16 girls clamouring around me. I made the first rose six times before I finally figured out what the pattern was telling me.
I have a progress photo
But also a regress photo
I love the vintage look of the dusty pink and purple roses, and I decided I’d like to run with that aesthetic, which means the bright pink and yellow roses no longer work. So they have been put to one side for use in some other project at some point.
I also got on with the mini octopom for my friend’s baby
It just needs eyes and some stuffing and it’s done.
Not too bad for a busy week. Is everyone else having a good week? What are you working on? Let me know in the comments!
The sun has been playing hide and seek in Glasgow so I’ve been able to work on my knitted blanket this week. It’s good to get back to it, but it’s not the most stimulating make in the world.
I’ve also made a start on the mini octopom for my friend’s baby.
Just think of all the things I can make between now and December. This baby is going to be so spoilt!
With my WIP list down to just five items I’m having strong urges to start something new, something a bit more challenging. I’ve had a thought for a blanket I’d like to make, but my skills are not up to designing it myself yet so I need to find a pattern that matches my idea closely enough. Time for a Ravelry dive I think. I’m looking for something involving roses, if anyone knows of a good pattern!
What’s everyone else working on? Are you having a good week? Let me know in the comments!
One of my best friends recently told me she’s having a baby, so I’ve been on a bit of a making frenzy. They don’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl, but my friend doesn’t buy into gendered colours anyway so I’ve pretty much got carte blanche and I’ve just been using anything I fancy from my stash.
There are these ginger dragon scale bootees (my friend is ginger and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a ginger baby too. They’re the cutest), which just need buttons sewing on.
I’ve started a comfort blanket, not following a pattern this time so there’s been a bit of frogging and I’m still not 100% sure how it will turn out.
It’s definitely going to be a bunny blanket. I’m currently trying to decide what colour to use for the inner ears. I could go pink or blue or yellow to match the yarn, but I’m kind of thinking a contrast would be better, maybe cream or light brown. It might be a case of just having a play and seeing what looks best.
I love this colourful cotton so much that I’ve also started a matching pair of bootees with it. Nothing photo-worthy yet though.
This is the friend for whom I made a rainbow octopom at Christmas so I’m also planning to make a mini one using the same yarn for baby.
I’d really love to make some proper baby clothes too, but it might not happen. This is my friend’s first baby so I imagine they’re going to be quite spoilt for choice, and she might not want any more clothes lying around!
The poor dragon is still in bits although I have made a start on the final wing piece.
So, even though baby isn’t due until November/December, that’s pretty much all I’ve been thinking about this week. How’s your week going? What are you working on right now? Let me know in the comments!
I’m so glad I have these posts to help me keep track of the days. Isn’t the time between Christmas and new year strange?
It probably doesn’t help that I’ve been crocheting constantly for the last three to four weeks, and now suddenly everything that needs to be made has been made. I’m not quite sure what to do with myself!
Never fear, all my family birthdays fall within January to April so I’ll be busy making again soon enough. In the meantime let’s have a looksee at some of the presents I made for Christmas.
The first gift I handed out was this little musical kitty (pattern here)
Shortly followed by her tiny ginger twin
I sent out octopoms
(plus 2 more octos I didn’t get photos of)
And yes, I finally finished my dad’s snorlax yesterday
I just love his little feet!
I also finished up the fingerless gloves and gave them to my friend. She immediately put them on and ran off to show her fiancé, so I think she was pleased.
Because of the yarn and hook size, these are super quick and easy to make so I’m definitely putting some into my shop in the new year.
So how’s everyone else doing this week? Managed any yarning for yourself? Let me know in the comments!
Over the weekend I made a preemie octopus for someone I know, who was induced two weeks before term. While I was making said octopus, no less than three people expressed a wish to own one for themselves.
Good news: I now have gift ideas for some of the more difficult people on my list!
Bad news: I have now added 3 octopoms to my already-rather-long To Do list
But I can do this! I’ve put my list in order of priority time-wise and made a good start. Here’s my first non-baby octopus in progress:
This is wool rather than cotton, as it’s for an adult, and I can’t even tell you how much quicker and easier it is. I think I’ll stick with wool for all my adult ones, then I’ll have half a chance of getting everything done in time.
This is for a friend whose favourite colour is ‘rainbow’, so I hope she’ll like it!
What’s everyone else working on this week? How are you getting on with Christmas presents? Let me know in the comments!
I have managed to shrink my WIP list, hooray! Although only a little
Here is my super cute finished cactus pin cushion.
Thank goodness I never have to use that yarn ever again.
My third finished octopom.
I used a bigger hook for this guy so he’s turned out with a bigger head, but somehow I managed to stitch his face the same size as the smaller poms so he’s ended up looking quite smug. Oh well, I’m sure somebody will love him.
And that’s all I’ve managed to finish. Curse those camper van wheels, that’s all I’m gonna say.
In other terribly exciting news, I made my first Etsy sale!! *happy dance*
As an added bonus, it wasn’t a member of my family or a friend. A complete stranger on the internet found my card and decided it was worth spending money on. I’m so happy 😀
This is just the boost I needed to get my backside into gear and list all my stock. Now I know for defnite that people are willing to pay for my items, but they won’t be able to if they’re just sitting in my FO drawer never to be seen!
So that’s my Friday. 2 WIPs down, 10 to go!
Who else is having a good Friday? Got a FO to share? Let me know in the comments!
