Sock it to me Monday 23

Please excuse the hasty photos – I completely forgot today is Monday!

The boyfriend’s socks only need a toe and the ends sewing in to be finished.

Hermione’s every day socks are bimbling along down the first foot.

How I wish I had gone for a plain foot instead of carrying on the fiddly pattern all the way down, so I could have been done and onto the second sock by now. Oh well, you live and learn!

I’m pretty excited to get my socks finished because I have PLANS for the leftovers. I already think I’m going to love them, but we’ll see. Now, on with the current socks.

Sock it to me Monday 22

I’m kind of liking having two pairs of socks to work on at the same time, especially as one is simpler than the other. If I want a little bit of brain work, I knit my neon rainbow socks.

And if I want to just zone out while watching the new episodes of Lucifer (eeeeeh!!) then I can work on the boyfriend’s socks.

It’s perfect! Y’know aside from the ridiculously long DPNs I’m having to use for the rainbow socks, but you can’t have everything.

Sock it to me Monday 21

I was knitting away on the boyfriend’s socks when I realised there was a little sock circular sitting around with nothing on it.  A little while later I was browsing my stash on Excel and noticed that I’d never actually used my Neon Rainbow yarn from Siobhan’s Crafts. You can guess what happened next.

This is the start of some Hermione’s Everyday Socks (Ravelry link) for myself.  I must say, so far I’m not convinced with this pattern – it seems a lot of faff for just a little pretty. But maybe that’s just because I don’t like having to switch between knit and purl stitches. I’m going to carry on and just trust that in the end it will be worth it.

The boyfriend’s socks are plodding along and I’ve almost finished the first one.

With two pairs now on the go at the same time, I think I can officially call myself a sock knitter.

The shortie socks ended up not quite matching, as I suspected.

20200810_154526.jpg

I would really rather have got a matching pair out of it, but I’m not too disappointed – I can’t remember the last time I used every last scrap of a skein!

The yarn was Lilac Blossom sock from JK Fibers and I got a long pair of socks and these shorties out of one skein, which is more than I expected. I wonder where I got the idea that one skein is just enough for one pair of socks?

Right now I’m working on a second pair for the boyfriend, using the yarn he bought in Dunoon. So far it’s turning out much more green and less purple than it looked in the skein.

These will be basic socks (Ravelry link) again, and then for the next pair I’m going to try a new-to-me pattern. Probably Hermione’s every day socks, but we’ll see.

Sock it to me Monday 19

Considering I wasn’t a sock knitter until very recently, I have a strange number of sock yarn mini skeins lying around.

Sadly I don’t have enough that work together to make another long pair of socks, so I spent a good deal of Saturday splitting them into combos for more shortie socks.

Because a) I LOVE THESE!!

20200720_184540.jpg

And b) they go so darn fast.

Also c) I’m really, REALLY trying to resist buying more full skeins, and having some socks already on the needles makes that a bit easier.

I’ve started some ribbed Rollers with a bright purple from Mothy and the Squid and the leftover yarn from the boyfriend’s socks.

And these are the other combos I’m (probably) going to go with:

I keep waiting to get bored of knitting socks, but it’s just not happening!

This time the rollers fit me – hooray!!

I’m half glad I had to restart, because I LOVE the look of the blue cuff and toe. Even with the little splodges of colour they were a bit too plain for my liking on the first go.

Of course I’m already planning my next pair of socks, which I think will be another pair of shorties, but with ribbing instead of a roll-top. I already can’t wait to get started!

I’m on track to finish my second pair of Pride socks by tomorrow. Yay for chunky yarn!

But the Rollers seem to be taking foreverrrrrrr, and I’m still on the foot of the first one.

I know it’s because I’ve been playing catch up with the CAL blanket and trying not to hurt my shoulder again, but the completer-finisher part of my brain is CROSS that these little socks are taking so much longer than the full sized ones.

I might have to take a break and make some coasters or something, just to get some finishes under my belt!

Argh these not-rainbow socks! The pooling is playing slightly different with this second sock, and I don’t know if I can just let it slide.

20200622_131440.jpg

I’ve no idea how this is happening, as I’m using the same skein of yarn on the same needles as the first sock.

Curse you again, accidental colour pooling!!

To give myself a break from misbehaving yarn, I also cast on my first Rose City Rollers.

20200622_131410.jpg

I must say I’m not a fan of this heel method; picking up stitches gets me so tense. For my next pair (yes, I’m already planning it) I might stick a different heel in and see if I can make it work.

I finished my first pair of Pride socks and I LOVE THEM!

20200615_132238.jpg

They turned out slightly more mismatched than I expected (although they’re not actually different shapes – the right side just wouldn’t lie flat), but I think the similarities are enough to tie them together as a pair. Plus they’re comfy and soooo toasty.

There’s still plenty of month left so I made a start on the second lot of yarn I was considering.

These are not going so well.

Curse you, accidental colour pooling.

The yarn did look fairly rainbow-y in the skein, but now they feel more like Hogwarts Houses socks.

Hogwarts_houses

Not that I’m against Hogwarts socks, but I was really aiming for a more Pride-y look.

I suppose the spiral stripes look kind of cool, so it’s not really a disaster. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the other sock turns out the same so at least I have a matching pair of not-quite-rainbow socks.

Once this pair is finished that’ll be me out of rainbow-like yarn so I shall finally start my first Rose City Rollers. I’m pretty excited!

Sock it to me Monday 13

I finished the boyfriend’s socks, and this time I’ve even sewn the ends in!

He’s very happy with them, which makes me very happy too.

I’ve already frogged and restarted my pride socks three times (I just couldn’t choose a pattern) so they’re only this far along:

I’ve only ever used this yarn for amigurumi before and the colours came out looking quite random, so I’m pleasantly surprised to be getting regular stripes this time. I did say I wanted to try some self-striping!

Now the frogging has stopped it’s going pretty quickly, so I think I might be able to make two pairs this month.

Aren’t socks fun!

Sock it to me Monday 12

I definitely could have made a whole pair of socks in a week, if I’d just paced myself. But that addictive personality came out, I knit non-stop for hours on end, and ended up with a stabby pain in my left shoulder.

So this is what the second sock looks like right now:

It will be finished this week, for reals. Although I’ll also be casting on my pride sock so it likely won’t be til the end of the week.

I’ve downloaded a pomodoro timer to my phone, which will hopefully stop me messing up my shoulder again. Fingers crossed.
