That is the ugliest effing square I’ve ever seen*

*it’s not plagiarism if you change a word, right?

I thought I had my mojo back up and running, but then I made the mistake of ignoring that little voice telling me I didn’t like what was appearing at the end of my crochet hook.

What hideous colours. But the next few rounds will fix it, won’t they?

Nope. Still hideous.

I frogged the whole thing and now it’s in the naughty corner for a while.

It’s strange that the colours I chose for the blanket all look so good together, but take out two or three of them and it can end up a disaster! I used to think I had such an eye for colour.

Well, I’ll try shuffling some around and maybe swapping some out, and see if I can get something workable. Maybe even pretty. Wish me luck.

Well that didn’t last long

I’m up to date with my CAL squares, ready for the last two to be released tomorrow.

Except, as you may be able to see, I did not keep up with sewing the ends in as I went.

I never learn.

Now, opinions please – I feel like the top left square doesn’t quite fit with the rest. Even though I used the same palette as the other squares, the way the colours sit together looks soooo different to me. Any thoughts? Did you notice it? Or am I just over thinking this? Please let me know!

WIP-ing on a Thursday

Yesterday was bad, but today will be better.

The blanket CAL calls for another 2 squares this week, and it’s a bit of a challenging pattern. I’ve finished one:

And started the second, mixing up the colours again:

I can’t say I’m entirely sold on the colours for the second square, but then I wasn’t too sure about the first one and that turned out pretty in the end so I might just carry on. Orrrrr I might frog and start again. Who knows.

These squares are so fiddly that I haven’t had much chance to work on anything else. But I’m determined to finish the ribbing on Flax this week. It’s virtual knit night tomorrow, which always helps me focus, so it’s totally doable.

Wonky roses

Current WIP count: 7

I am a dingbat. We all knew this anyway, but at the weekend I got even more proof.

The boyfriend asked about Roses for Grandma, so I laid out the squares I had made so far to give him an idea of how it will look.

I’m actually further on than this, but it gives an idea

As I was explaining, I noticed that some squares were more ruffly than others. Thinking maybe I had used a different sized hook, I picked up a ruffled and an unruffled square to compare them, and realised that one was a whole round smaller than the other.

I checked the others and yes, I had reached the penultimate round, somehow skipped over the last part of the pattern, and cut the yarn. Six times.

So my Sunday was spent adding round 6 to a bunch of squares to bring them up to the right shape and size. I’m very good at round 6 now.

I’m hoping they were all from the beginning of this project when I was blindly following the pattern and not really understanding how it related to the yarn in my hands, rather than me just having several special moments when I actually knew what I was doing, but who knows!

It wouldn’t be a project of mine if it all went smoothly, would it?

P.S. just for funsies, does anyone want to guess how many skeins of yarn I have in my stash?
