WIP Wednesday 22.09.21

Current WIP count: 7

My mojo has been missing for so long I had to dig through the memos on my phone to find my WIP list, and there are things on there I forgot I’d even started.

I think it might be on the up again though, as the other day I was minding my own business and suddenly got a massive urge to cast on a sock IMMEDIATELY. So I skimmed the top of stash mountain, found two sort-of-coordinating skeins, and started a pair of shortie socks.

The cuffs and toes will be a Blue Raspberry mini skein from Mothy and the Squid, and the main colour is (I think) from Hand Drawn Yarn. Possibly called Thistle.  They’re not as high contrast as I usually go for, but it’s so good actually wanting to knit again after all this time that I’m enjoying it anyway.  Fingers crossed it will last!

FO Tuesday (because if I wait until Friday I’ll forget)

The Mandalorian bandwagon has been out, done its rounds, and got back to the station, so of course I chose now to jump on it.  One of The Fiancé’s nieces loves baby Yoda and she had a birthday on Saturday. I mentioned that I could crochet one in time, and he came out with possibly the silliest thing he’s said to me so far: “do you have the yarn?”

Do I have the yarn??  I probably have enough yarn in my stash to make a Death Star, the whole crew, and a 3D landscape to display it in.  Of course I had the exact colours I needed and he turned out suuuuuuper cute.

I will definitely not be making any more though; he’s smaller than my hand, and my amigurumi is very tight, so the sewing together was not a fun experience. But hey, I made a baby Yoda that stands up on its own and the recipient loves it so I’m happy!

October review 2020

Stash used this month: 0.5

Total stash used this year: 43

Stash added: 2

Stash remaining: 327.25

I’m really not getting through stash mountain as quickly as I hoped. That seems to be what happens when I can’t stop knitting socks; they’re such addictive little things, but not exactly yarn munchers.

All I’ve managed this month is a pair of socks for the boyfriend and two blanket squares.

Of course, stress-buying yarn isn’t helping either. I really am trying to cut down on that.

I’m now starting to think about Christmas presents, as well as a couple of December birthdays, so there should be something other than socks and blankets to show off this month! Even I’m looking forward to that.

In my defence, I was left unsupervised

The boyfriend and I went to Dunoon again at the weekend, and no trip is truly complete without a visit to Jinty & Baa. I thought he would come in to the shop with me, but he insisted that I go in alone while he got some drinks from the cafe next door.

Insisted.

So in I went and instantly got distracted by all the beautiful colours and pretty new yarn. We’ve now reached the point that the owner recognises me (even with a mask on) so we had a chat about what’s happened since I was last there, and the new yarn and fabric that had come in.

And then before I knew it I had these three pretties to take home with me.

The big blue chonk is Rico creative Melange aran wonderball. It’s a whole 200g of wool/acrylic blend that I’m already planning to make into a top for myself.

This here is one of the rare cases when I went for fibre content over colour.

I didn’t particularly like any of the colourways in stock, but I am keen to try some sock yarn with cotton so I went for it. This is Schoppel Boots, which is 44% superwash wool, 42% cotton, and 14% nylon.

It also has this accurate warning on the label:

And then a pretty little bundle of fat quarters caught my eye and just jumped into my hands. I was powerless to resist.

And that’s the story of how I added to stash mountain AGAIN. But I think we can all agree it’s the Boyfriend’s fault for leaving me unsupervised in a yarn shop 😉

September review 2020

Yesss Halloween month is here! Time to dig out my face paints and costumes!

But before all that, let’s have a look at my yarnery in September.

Stash used this month: 1

Total stash used this year: 42.5

Stash remaining: 325.75

Makes for myself

Just a crochet rainbow and most of a pair of Hermione’s every day socks for myself this month. I’m happy with that, as I’ve wanted to make a rainbow like this for MONTHS and I just love the neon rainbow yarn from Siobhan’s Crafts.

Makes for others

I finished off a green pair of socks for the boyfriend and made a start on a purple pair. Cuz he’s amazing and bought me flowers as soon as I found out I was losing my job.

He is good to me.

I am most definitely still in the middle of a sock phase. But I also feel the urge to make another blanket getting stronger and stronger, so that’s probably going to happen imminently.

It just popped into my head that I did a “make 9” post away back when things were normal, which I haven’t even looked at for months. It’s probably a bit late to get them all done before the end of the year, but I think I’ll have a look at it again and at least try something from the list.

But then I will also be spending a lot of time looking for a job and then hopefully working at said job. We’ll see.

How was your September?

August review 2020

I got in a muddle with my cotton yarn so had a shuffle around with Excel, and I’m not quite sure how but the total stash used this year went way up while the stash remaining stayed roughly the same. I guess I’ll only find out if it’s right when I get to the bottom of stash mountain (AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

Stash used this month: 1

Total stash used this year: 41.25

Stash remaining: 326.75

I’m not really sure why I didn’t get much crafting done last month. But one skein is better than no skeins so I’ll take it! It was almost entirely socks this month, with a blanket border thrown in for good measure.

Hopefully this month I can get a bit more of a wriggle on and bust that stash. I might yet make another blanket, this time with warmer colours, but we’ll see what happens with work.
