FO Friday 29.12.17

I’m so glad I have these posts to help me keep track of the days. Isn’t the time between Christmas and new year strange?

It probably doesn’t help that I’ve been crocheting constantly for the last three to four weeks, and now suddenly everything that needs to be made has been made. I’m not quite sure what to do with myself!

Never fear, all my family birthdays fall within January to April so I’ll be busy making again soon enough. In the meantime let’s have a looksee at some of the presents I made for Christmas.

The first gift I handed out was this little musical kitty (pattern here)

Shortly followed by her tiny ginger twin

I sent out octopoms

(plus 2 more octos I didn’t get photos of)

and pokemon.

And yes, I finally finished my dad’s snorlax yesterday

I just love his little feet!

I also finished up the fingerless gloves and gave them to my friend. She immediately put them on and ran off to show her fiancé, so I think she was pleased.

Because of the yarn and hook size, these are super quick and easy to make so I’m definitely putting some into my shop in the new year.

So how’s everyone else doing this week? Managed any yarning for yourself? Let me know in the comments!

The great FO Friday post

Being ill sucks. It does. But then look at this lovely long list of FOs!

My first, single-strand Seafoam scarf is done and blocked.

Here it is next to the second one to show the difference.

Both kindle cosies are finished, although I clearly mis-measured one of them so that’ll be a phone cosy instead. I also can’t find it right now to take a photo….

This is the dragon scale cosy

I finished Charmander and Bubasaur this week, so my brother’s Christmas presents are ready to go.

And I may never make another Bulbasaur again, he was so awkward. One of those legs has been sewn on 4 times, the left ear twice, and don’t even ask about the bulb.

I can barely believe it – this brings my WIP count down to 5! But I have so many ideas whirling round my mind at the moment that I’m sure it won’t stay down there for very long.

So there we go, sometimes being ill isn’t all bad. Anyone else sick, so we can commiserate together (I’m looking at you, Tami!)? Got some FOs this week? Let me know in the comments!

Lookit me, right down into single figures again! Although it’s slightly less good knowing that’s only because I’ve been too ill to do anything but crochet.

Sewing amigurumi together has become a hundred times easier and less stressful since discovering this method. I’m currently using it to sew together my brother’s third and final Christmas present; Bulbasaur.

I find it easier, and it looks so much neater than the method I was using before. I’m actually considering keeping my first squirtle and making another with this stitching for my brother, so they’ll all be as neat as each other.

There’s also the doily that I’ve been putting off for months, but have finally forced myself to work on. I really hope it’s eventually going to look half as good as I’m imagining. No photos, because it doesn’t look much like anything yet.

There are also a few things blocking so they’ll be ready in time for Friday. This might be the most productive FO Friday post I ever make! At least something useful has come of this flippin everlasting virus.

What’s everyone else working on? Let me know in the comments!

WILL YOU LOOK AT THIS PATTERN!

Sorry, I’m just completely in love.

It’s not dry yet, so maybe not technically finished, but I just couldn’t wait another second to show it!

I’ve also finished my first Christmas present for this year. Feeling so organised.

Isn’t he a cutie!

That’s it for this week, but I currently have a 4-day weekend and another viral throat infection so be prepared for a bucketload of FOs next week!

Got any FOs to share? Any fun series to watch while I’m out of action? I’ve already watched Pride & Prejudice twice…

Squirtle was getting lonely, so I’ve started making a charmander friend for him. I haven’t had a solid chunk of time to work on it so this one is going a bit slower.

The hood for my scoodie is blocking right now, I tried spraying it with water rather than soaking so hopefully it won’t take as long to dry as the little squares did.

I’ve joined the squares together into a scarf, but there’s a very real possibility I might undo them all again. It’s not a straight join and I really don’t like the way it makes the scarf zigzag (sorry no photos, I dislike it that much).

I really don’t enjoy the whole joining process though, so I’ll probably just do another round of granny stitch all the way around the edge and hope that straightens it up a bit.

And the beautiful second Seafoam Scarf is nearly finished.

It’s long enough to wrap around my neck now, so I’ll just add a few more repeats until the yarn runs out. I can’t be doing with tiny little bundles of yarn left over after every project!

What’s everyone else working on this week? Let me know in the comments!

FO Friday 15.09.17

Only one FO this week, as I was ill for a wee bit and just slept the days away.

Well, I suppose technically it’s 6 FOs, isn’t it! These are my daisy squares to be sent down in time for the crochet-a-thon in October.

They’re so quick and fun to make, even if you’ve only got a spare 20 minutes you could whip one up. So if at all possible please consider making some daisies for Vicky, or buy a raffle ticket to win one of the finished blankets. It’s all for a good cause 🙂

I’m determined to get Squirtle finished up next, so I’ve made a deal with myself: for every part I sew onto Squirtle, I get to knit 2 rows of the Seafoam Scarf. I loooove knitting this scarf so I should be super motivated! This Sunday is looking like a blank slate so far so hopefully I should be able to tick this first Christmas present off my list. Wish me luck!

Who’s got some FOs to share? Got any yarny plans for the weekend?

Let me know in the comments!

I decided to leave my seafoam scarf quite short and then try a doubled up version with some complementary yarn, and oh boy did I make the right decision!

Just look at it. I do, frequently. I love the way the colours work together, I love the feel of working with ‘thicker yarn’, I love the way the pattern looks more solid and regular. I just love it!

Pretty good for my first ever foray into holding two yarns together. I rolled them both into centre-pull balls so they just sit on the floor in front of me as I knit away. It’s perfect.

I’ve also done a little more work on Squirtle, although I can feel myself slowing down as I approach the sewing together stage.

What I definitely must not do is crochet the pieces for all three starter pokemon and leave the sewing together until the end. Sewing one together is a lot less daunting than three!

The small squares for my scoodie took forever to dry so it’s still not joined up yet. I’ve almost finished the hood, heck knows how long that chunky bit will take to block.

I’ve also added in a new WIP, for a good cause.

Head on over to the Wee House of Crochet for more details about the Daisies for Vicky appeal, raising money for Victim Support.

I’m away up in Scotland so I can’t make it to the crochet-a-thon, but I am going to make some squares and post them down to be joined into the blankets. If you fancy helping out, you can make a square (or several), or donate for a chance to win one of the blankets.

That’s my busy week. What’s everyone else working on? Let me know in the comments!

I’m making super progress on my Seafoam Scarf, sooooo glad I dropped Sacre Coeur for this!

Still dithering about how long to make it. If I carry on until the yarn is all gone then I think it’ll end up massively long, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Or I could make it a more regular length and find some other use for the remaining yarn. I’m really not sure.

There’s also a solid beginning on the first bit of my brother’s Christmas present:

The blue is actually nowhere near this dark

Can you tell what it is yet?

I’m using 53Stitches’ pattern and hoping mine turns out even half as cute. I’m still an amigurumi novice so I’m not expecting it to be perfect, but if it’s recognisably a squirtle then I’ll be happy!

All the small granny squares for my scoodie are blocking, and I’ve made a start on the big square for the hood. This involves adding stitches to only 3 of the 4 sides, which I’ve not done before. Yay for new skills!

What’s everyone else working on? Made a start on any Christmas presents yet? Let me know in the comments!
